A highly regarded and leading worldwide international Queen’s Counsel with a great range of depth and experience in many fields both inside and outside his legal practice, including commerce, politics and the arts.  Aged 56 he has both the range of proven abilities and the energy to contribute massively to any enterprise.

 

Details:

 

Julian Malins Q.C. was called to the Bar in 1972, having been awarded a Harmsworth

Scholarship.   He was pupil to Robert Alexander Q.C. (Lord Alexander of Weedon Q.C. who became Chairman of the National Westminster Bank).  He now practises in commercial and corporate law in England  and with the international firm of Callenders & Co in Nassau, Bahamas, specialising in international law (especially cross border asset recovery and money laundering cases), international criminal activities, financial services law, trust law, worldwide financial fraud and shipping and business contracts generally.  He was a member of the General Council of the Bar of England and Wales (1986 to 2005).  He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1991 and was elected a Bencher of the Middle Temple in 1996.  He is a member of the Cayman Islands and of the British Virgin Islands Bar.

 

Judicial work:

 

Julian Malins Q.C was a Disciplinary Tribunal Chairman of The Financial Services Authority from 1990 to 1997.  He is a Recorder of The Crown Court.  He has chaired major financial services disciplinary proceedings.  He is an arbitrator with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

 

Commercial:

 

Julian Malins Q.C. has served on the Policy Committee of The London Chamber of

Commerce and Industry (1992 to 1997).  He has been a City of London Councillor for Fleet Street and the Temple since 1981 and has served on many of the Corporation’s committees, including the Finance Committee and the Markets Committee. In 2003 he was Chairman of the City reception committee for the State visit of President Putin.   He co founded and is director of Malins Scott and Li Wealth Management Bahamas Limited and Kwan Li and Malins Limited.  He is a licensed financial service provider in The Bahamas and he has extensive experience in China.

 

General:

 

Julian Malins Q.C. has acted as Counsel or as Tribunal Chairman in a large number of

major fraud, commercial and financial cases and arbitrations based in London, Kuwait,

Dubai, Nassau, Bermuda, Grand Cayman, Sri Lanka and elsewhere.

 

Appointments:

 

Julian Malins Q.C. is a Governor of the Museum of London and a Governor of the

Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

 

Achievements:

 

Julian Malins Q.C. has successfully led the legal teams in worldwide financial, fraud,

criminal investigation and insolvency litigation including The Gameboy, The Prestrioka, Kuwait – v – Al Bader and Ors,  B.C.C.I. – v –  Pharaon and Ors and Billes - v  - The Bank of Bermuda and Ors.  He has chaired important and complex FSA disciplinary hearings including Nomura and Maxwell.

Writing articles, military history and travel.
